Tiki against the snow. New England's only immersive tropical winter weekender takes over a lakeside hotel in Sturbridge, central Massachusetts, each February — a defiant Pacific fantasy staged in the dead of a New England winter, run by the Greater Boston Vintage Society. Sturbridge itself has no tiki bar, so this chart reaches about an hour east to greater Boston's genuinely strong scene — Tiki Rock, Wusong Road, Shore Leave, and the endangered Route 1 giant Kowloon — plus the region's Polynesian ghosts, including a Chicopee floor-show legend just up the Pike. 2027 runs Feb 4–7, and the Sturbridge Host's discount rate is already bookable by phone.

The Boston Tiki Run

Sturbridge has no tiki bar, but Boston has a real scene an hour east. Downtown, Tiki Rock sits by Faneuil Hall; across the river, Jason Doo's Wusong Road holds Harvard Square; the South End's Shore Leave is the polished one; and up Route 1 in Saugus, the colossal 1960 Kowloon is on borrowed time before its downsizing rebuild. Make it a day around the event.

The Dead Reckoning Run

New England's Polynesian ghosts. Trader Vic's held the Statler in Boston; the Aku Aku ran in Cambridge; and 35 minutes west of Sturbridge, the Hu Ke Lau kept the Northeast's longest-running Polynesian floor show alive in Chicopee for 53 years. Hu Ke Lau is the easy day-trip from the host hotel; the Boston graves pair with the bar run.

Know Before You Go

First-timer intel
Book the room early
The 2027 weekend runs Thursday to Sunday, Feb 4–7. The Sturbridge Host's discount rate opened months ahead: call the hotel and ask for a poolside room for the Nor'easter Island weekend. Bands, presenters and tickets for 2027 come from the organizers at noreasterisland.com.
It's a real New England winter
Central Massachusetts in February means cold, snow, and short days — which is the whole gag. Everything is indoors at the host hotel; pack for the drive and the parking lot, not the luau.
The bars are a Boston day
There's no tiki near Sturbridge — the operating scene on this chart is greater Boston, about an hour east. Treat the bar run as a dedicated day trip, ideally before or after the event weekend.
Catch Kowloon while it's whole
The Route 1 Kowloon — a genuine 1960 Polynesian colossus — faces a downsizing rebuild expected around 2026. See the original barn-sized room while it still stands in full.

Survival Guide

Provisions & resupply
Liquor
Yankee Spirits — One of New England's largest liquor superstores, effectively next door to the host hotel — a two-minute hop east on Route 20. Deep rum aisle for room-crawl restocking.
Mon–Sat ~9am–9pm; shorter Sunday hoursMap ↗
Ice
Route 20 convenience (Cumberland Farms / gas) — Bagged ice from the Route 20 convenience strip minutes from the hotel; the front desk can point to the closest. Confirm the exact store.
Late / 24h at gas stationsMap ↗
Late-Night Food
McDonald's (Route 20) — The dependable late option in a small town. Sit-down Sturbridge dining closes early, so lean on the hotel's own tavern for a real nightcap meal.
