Hotel intel: Inuhele is a wanderer — Marriott Century Center, the Sheraton Atlanta Downtown (four years), Century Center again, the Omni at Centennial Park in 2026 — and the 2027 weekender's dates and venue are still unannounced, so don't book a room yet. Know the split: Inuhele: Winter Break (Jan 22–23, 2027, Courtland Grand Hotel) is a separate, deliberately low-key hotel takeover — lighter fare, lower price, no big installations — not the full weekender this chart is built for. January in Atlanta is genuinely cold — 30s at night — so your aloha shirt needs a coat over it. The homebar tour (Inuhele's original 2018 DNA) is capped, 21+, and historically the first thing to sell out.

The Eastbound Grog Line

The classic. Start with a Mai Tai in the 1976 time capsule under the Hilton — pour one out for The Hukilau, founded in this room in 2002 — then ride east to S.O.S. in Decatur, the craft-tiki standard-bearer of the New South. Pour one out at 420 Edgewood on the way: Mambo Zombi's neon coffin went dark in 2025, with an East Atlanta Village resurrection promised.

Mixed · new wave + one grave4–5 hrs

Westside & Midtown Watch

Atlanta's tiki present and recent past in one arc. Follow the neon alligator to Strangers in Paradise on the Westside Beltline, pay respects at the Tiki Tango site in Midtown, and land at Bon Ton for tiki-style drinks and a late Cajun-Vietnamese kitchen.

Dead Reckoning · Peachtree to Va-Hi2–3 hrs

The Dead Reckoning Run

Three eras of Atlanta tiki loss. Begin at 1999 Peachtree, where the Dinkler Luau became the Dobbs House Luau and launched a Southern Polynesian chain — the A-frame still stands. Then the freshest grave, Tiki Tango's sold-off Midtown block, and finish where the Rundgrens' Kauai transplant briefly flowered in Virginia-Highland.

Know Before You Go

First-timer intel
It's January in Atlanta
Nighttime lows in the 30s are normal and ice storms are not unheard of. The aloha-shirt-under-a-parka look is standard issue; pack layers for the walk between the hotel and downtown bars.
The Homebar Tour is the crown jewel
Inuhele literally began as a 2018 bus tour of Atlanta home tiki bars that ended at Trader Vic's. The modern version is 21+, capacity-capped, and sells out before anything else. If you want on the bus, buy the moment tickets open.
Make the Trader Vic's pilgrimage early
The 1976 basement Vic's under the Hilton is on the block adjacent to the Courtland Grand and one of the last original-feel Trader Vic's in America — and it's where The Hukilau held its first event in 2002. It fills up during the event weekend; consider a Thursday recon.
You can do a lot of this without a car
Downtown is walkable, and MARTA's Blue Line runs from Five Points straight to Decatur station, two blocks from S.O.S. Tiki Bar. Save rideshare budget for the Westside and the Dead Reckoning Run.
Big tent, small scene
Inuhele is a break-even community weekender run by the Horror In Clay folks, not a corporate con — mug releases, the trading post, and Tipsy Crafting are where the socializing happens. Bring a mug to trade and cash for artists.

Survival Guide

Provisions & resupply
Liquor
Sol's Liquor — Downtown institution 40+ years, conveniently around the corner from Trader Vic's. Georgia quirk: distilled spirits come from package stores only, and Sunday retail starts after midday — provision the room party Saturday.
~10am–9pm · Fri–Sat till 11:30pm · Sun from middayMap ↗
Ice
CVS (Peachtree Center) — Closest bagged-ice fallback to the Courtland Grand, about a half mile via Peachtree Center. For crushed-ice emergencies at 1am, the hotel floor ice machines remain the tiki traveler's truest friend.
Daytime retail hours — not 24hMap ↗
Late-Night Food
Landmark Diner — Greek-American diner in Fairlie-Poplar, roughly three blocks from the Courtland Grand. Full bar, colossal menu, open all night — the canonical post-room-party landing pad.

Late-Night Food
Waffle House (Broad Street) — You're in Georgia; a Waffle House pilgrimage is practically part of the event programming. Hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered at 3am, a short walk from the host hotel.
